Tax from the taxable value, or the taxable value from an amount that includes GST — CGST and SGST separately, or IGST. Each tax head is rounded at its own rate, the way it is on invoices and returns.

This calculator takes the rate from you — it does not look up a rate from the HSN/SAC. Under GST 2.0 (from 22 Sep 2025) most supplies moved to 5% and 18%, and a 40% rate was introduced for sin and luxury goods. Invoices dated before that still show 12% and 28%, and some items stayed on their old rates for a while — which is why every rate is in the list. Always confirm the rate from the notification for the item.
Because CGST and SGST are each rounded separately at half the rate, while IGST is rounded once at the full rate. On small or odd amounts the two halves can add up to one paisa more or less than the IGST figure. That is not an error.
GST = taxable value × rate ÷ 100. On ₹10,000 at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 — CGST ₹900 and SGST ₹900 within the state, or IGST ₹1,800 from another state. The invoice total is ₹11,800.
Taxable value = inclusive amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). For ₹11,800 including 18% GST, the taxable value is ₹10,000 and the GST ₹1,800.
IGST applies to an inter-state supply — when the supplier’s location and the place of supply are in different states. Within one state, CGST and SGST (or UTGST) are charged at half the rate each.
From 22 September 2025, most supplies moved to 5% and 18%, and a 40% rate applies to specified sin and luxury goods. Invoices dated before that still show 12% and 28%. Confirm an item’s rate from the notification for its HSN or SAC.
